Refund Policy
Last updated: July 3, 2026
1. Digital content and the right of withdrawal
Dystopia Engine sells digital content (AI-generated story turns, world bibles, character generation, and related features) delivered immediately upon purchase. Under EU Directive 2011/83/EU and Hungarian consumer law, the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to digital content that has already been delivered, provided the consumer has given prior consent and acknowledged the loss of the withdrawal right before purchase. We commit to obtaining that express consent and acknowledgement at checkout before your purchase completes; checkout is operated through Stripe Managed Payments, with Stripe acting as merchant of record. Stripe applies applicable consumer-protection requirements, including regional cooling-off periods, where the law requires them.
2. One-time credit packs
Credit packs (Starter, Standard, Pro) are non-refundable once any credits from the pack have been consumed. Credits are consumed when you use an AI feature (story turns, world generation, etc.).
If you have not used any credits from a pack and you contact us within 14 days of purchase, we will issue a full refund at our discretion, provided the request is made in good faith. Contact support@dystopia-engine.com with your Stripe receipt or order reference.
3. Subscriptions
Monthly subscriptions (Creator, Architect) are billed at the start of each billing period. You may cancel at any time; your subscription remains active until the end of the current paid period, after which it will not renew. Apart from the statutory right of withdrawal described below, no partial refunds are issued for the unused portion of a billing period.
If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal when you first subscribe. If you asked us to begin the subscription immediately and then withdraw within those 14 days, we will refund what you paid less a proportionate amount for the service already provided up to the point of withdrawal. This 14-day right applies to a new subscription, not to the automatic renewal of an existing one.
Monthly subscription credits that are unused at the end of a billing period are forfeited — they do not carry over. Top-up credits purchased separately are unaffected by cancellation and never expire.
4. Exceptions
We will issue a full refund without question in the following cases:
- Duplicate charge caused by a payment processing error
- You were charged for a subscription renewal after you had already cancelled
- A technical fault on our side prevented you from using the credits you purchased
In any of these cases, email support@dystopia-engine.com with your Stripe receipt or order reference and a brief description. We aim to respond within 2 business days.
5. How refunds are processed
Payments are processed through Stripe Managed Payments, with Stripe acting as the merchant of record and seller of record (through its subsidiary Sold Through Link, LLC, “Link SMP”). Stripe can issue a refund within 60 days of a purchase in certain cases, including to help reduce chargebacks, and applies applicable consumer-protection requirements — such as regional cooling-off periods — where the law requires them. Stripe may also decline, delay, withhold, or reverse a payment where it identifies fraud, error, or a breach of its terms. This does not affect the statutory consumer rights described in sections 1 and 3, or the billing-error exceptions in section 4, which we honour. Where a refund is granted, it is returned to the original payment method and is typically reflected within 5–10 business days depending on your bank or card issuer.
